Today it's raining in Paris, and I'm at home thinking of another rainy city I visited after New Year. It's a beautiful place with lot's of canals, art museums and it's famous for being tolerant (in different aspects) with turists. Yes, I'm talking about Amsterdam!
Today I'm gonna show you a very special hotel where we stayed in Amsterdam, and I liked it so much that I decided to share my experience with you. CitizenM Amsterdam is a completely new hotel located in Amsterdam Zuid just 15 minutes from the city center. It's very comfortable to catch the tram as the station is just in front of the hotel and it takes you directly to all interesting places in Amsterdam.
~ the lobby ~
The first thing u see when you are in the hotel is the super cool interior design with a lot of modern design furniture. My favourite piece was the heart cone chair by Verner Panton.
After this first good impression we checked-in, which we had to do on a computer in the lobby with some help of the nice staff. It went really fast and after we got our keys we couldn't wait to check out the room, but first some impressions of the beautiful lobby:
~ the room ~
We got a room on the second floor with "city view" (view on the WTC district). The first thing you will notice when you enter the room is the futuristic looking shower in the middle of the room. Then when you pass by the the shower you get to discover the really big bed. It's probably the biggest bed I have seen so far in a hotel room. Another really cool thing about the room is that you can control everything from an iPad. So if you want to change the colour in the shower or toilet, no problem, just take the iPad and change the colour settings. You can also control the window blinds, radio and the TV. One thing we enjoyed a lot was the great selection of movies and series on their TV. They kind of have a service like Netflix where you can pick a recent movie or series and just stream it to the TV. After a long day outside walking through the little streets of Amsterdam, it was quite relaxing to just drop in to the bed and enjoy a good movie. The rooms in the CitizenM hotel are all the same and the only difference is the view. I recommend the rooms with "city view" as the view is a bit more beautiful than the ones which have "garden view'.
~ the bar ~
Down in the lobby there is also a bar and snack area. You can have breakfast (not included) there every morning or just hang out, have a drink or relax in one of the cool Eames chairs. As the rest of the hotel the design of the bar is modern and filled with design pieces. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The whole hotel is about a cool ambience and young people. Once there you feel like you are at home, and it really makes it difficult to leave. When you think that all this comes at a high price, you will be surprised, because the their rates are more than affordable as they especially seem to target a younger crowd.
I had an awesome experience and I can highly recommend staying at the CitizenM when you come to visit Amsterdam!
